I own a couple of coloring books by Forest Diver and definitely look for new ones by this talented artist. In this coloring book, the artist has created lovely designs which couple with inspirational sayings. To say inspirational is not quite enough as the quotes provide motivation, challenge and encouragement.It’s almost worth buying for those alone but along with the quotes are some really lovely and fun designs to color.The people in his designs have his signature style which, to me, is sometimes almost elfin in nature. The people are generally set in a natural setting with fun elements to color. The designs are detailed but not overly intricate.This is what I found in this coloring book:32 Inspirational and fun designs in the bookPrinted one side of the pagePaper is typical inexpensive quality by CreateSpace printing: white with black on the reverse side, thin, slightly rough and non-perforated.The designs do not merge into the binding.Glue BindingCreate Space Paper/Media QualityAlcohol-based markers bleed through the page quickly.Water-based markers bleed through in spots.Gel pens and India ink pens leave shadows on back of the page. India ink can bleed through if you apply heavily or multiple coats.Coloring Pencils work fairly well with this publisher’s paper provided you don’t press extremely hard while coloring. I find that I can layers the same color for deeper pigment or multiple colors and blended easily with a pencil style blending stick. This is true of both oil and wax based pencils. I have also found that hard lead pencils leave dents through the paper.I like to use a blotter when working in this type of book. I use a page of card stock or several sheets of heavyweight paper under my working page. It keeps seeping ink and marring dents from ruining the pages below.
I am a massive fan of Julia rivers and the different artists that publish under her. Because I'm also a big fan of this specific artist, Forest Diver, I bought this book within the hour or the released :-) I was not disappointed and there are absolutely no regrets over my immediate purchase! Beautiful people litter this book as well as fantastic sweet little animals! There's fantasy style and more realistic however this has some of the most unique quotes in it that I've seen. I will never Tire of singing it praise so I'm going to just photograph a whole bunch of the pictures so you can try to make your own decision! It's printed on your typical create space paper but it now has a black back, it's not perforated nor is there another image on the other side to color. I like to use my Crayolas and some Hobby level oil pencils to combat the tooth of the paper.
I don’t own other books with inspirational sayings in them simply because they all seem to look alike with a zen doodle-y illustrations of mandalas and flowers and such. I don’t personally gravitate towards that style of illustration for coloring.This book, however has illustrations that actually suit the sayings and are (in my opinion) beautifully drawn to boot!The paper is medium-weight CreateSpace. I recommend colored pencils and gel pens for this kind of paper.The illustrations are single-sided, so bleed-through is a non-issue if you choose to use markers. (Please use a piece of card stock or a few sheets of scratch paper behind your page to avoid affecting the next illustration with ink or accidental debossing.)I highly recommend this book and plan to buy a few as gifts. I hope more with illustrations like this one become available in the future.
I love the art in this coloring book. It’s magical and inspiring. It’s unique and has mostly inspirational quotes but some have the magical little creatures. The type of coloring book that makes you happy. Pages are one sided with black on the other and not perforated.
I use Sharpies often to color and they don't bleed through in this book! That is like the holy Grail of things you look for in a good adult coloring book. The designs are also beautiful, more than what I expected for the cheap price. It's a steal!
So much Inspiration and equanimity from the pages of coloring...creationist or evolutionist - we all agree that we are made from the stars by either God or the cosmos.
