I really like Shippen's books so I had high hopes for this. I was a little disappointed in the "tours" because they seem to take you all over Bangkok every day. Details are useful, but for our trip I will probably re-arrange the "tours" so they are closer together.
Great for a short stay in Bangkok! Will let you know how it goes when I get back from my trip in a couple of weeks.
We had two long layovers in Bangkok -- 27 hours on the way to Indonesia and 10 hours on the way back. With such a short stay, I didn't want to buy a full Thailand guidebook that would take up a lot of space in my backpack. This book is a compact size and has just enough information for short stays. We used it to piece together a walking tour that took us all over Bangkok. The book never felt cumbersome and it was easy to slip into a pocket when not in use. I loved it so much I just ordered the Frommers Day by Day editions for both Rome and Florence. Wish they had more cities.
I love the day by day series! Can't wait to put it to good use!
