Another incredible work by the late Dr Goodman, this is jam-packed with details about the life of Joan of Kent and that period of English history. He has the rare ability to write in a academically respectable manner that is still very readable and enjoyable.
As the very first Princess of Wales, Joan's life is worth reading about. It had more twists and turns than anything Hollywood could dream up but don't read this book to learn about her. One might expect a modern historian to write from a fairly objective perspective, however, that is not the case with this book. It is utterly and disappointedly biased. Skip this book and read Penny's Lawne's biography of Joan of Kent instead. Professor Goodman's portrayal of Joan is based solely on one action, one she made when was young, naive, vulnerable and just 12 years old. It might be ok for the 14th medieval court to view Joan that way but one would expect more from a professional historian.
