This guide was invaluable. Took it to Yellowstone and everyone on the trip used it as a guide. Two other people sent the buying link to friends. Very thorough and full of facts. The format is very friendly. I like guides that give realistic information and are not just ads for restaurants and lodging.
I should have looked more closely at the index. When I saw Explorer's Guide I expected much more on exploring the parks - trail/hiking info, maybe a few lesser known gems to visit. It is not what I hoped for. It is a good overview of what you might see, and has nice write-ups of dining and lodging. However, I would not call it an Explorer's guide. I liked the Lonely Planet book much better. Now, once you get to the park you can buy or borrow the major trail maps so you won't need to carry a book with you while walking (and no chance of getting an AT&T signal to look up anything online). So, I would do all my reading/research beforehand - this book can help with the lodging info, and keep it in the car in case you want to look up dining options on the road. For off boardwalk exploring I would recommend "A Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone Day Hikes."
Was not disappointed by this book. Had good recommendations for campsites! Whatever we did, was most likely mentioned in this book. Didn't crack the cover until we started our 20 hour journey to Wyoming. It served us well!
This good included everything we needed to know for our family vacation to Yellowstone. It was filled with great spots to visit and photos. I highly recommend this book for anyone planning on visiting the area!
A must-read for planning a trip to the Yellowstone area. It is comprehensive. I call it my Yellowstone Bible. Highly recommend!
It provides pointers to interesting things in all categories. It doesn't always provide driving directions, but that's easy to supplement.
This book has detailed information on the history as well as the geography of the parks. The pictures are beautiful, and visitor information is easy to follow.
