Along with the Small Catechism with Explanation, written by Dr Martin Luther, the Large Catechism should be included in one's basic family or individual library. It provides further understanding of the Lutheran Religion. As an adult convert from Roman Catholicism into the Missouri Synod Lutheran Faith by 'Affirmation', I possessed the mistaken idea that I really didn't need to readjust my belief system too much... Golly, was I wrong. It didn't just involve the 'what did' Dr Luther teach, it's the Biblically-based 'why did' he teach it that is so stunningly soul satisfying to me. Over the past 14 years I've suffered from 'Foot-In-Mouth-Disease', asking many 'ignorant' questions (I thank God that I was amongst friends) in our church's many weekly Bible Study or annual 'Lay Leadership' Courses... Oh Man!! I should have bought this book, for 'The Cure', 14 years ago...
Perfect. Love â¤ï¸ it better than electronic version. Pick it up any time and start where I left off. So deep for me. Gives me plenty to meditate on. Onlike the scanning at a younger age. And so much more to digest than the Small Catechism.
Expanded version of the catechism upon which is based the doctrine of the Lutheran Church. All children in the Lutheran Church must study Luther's Small Catechism before they are confirmed in the faith. Adult Christians would do well to read and study the large catechism, which is a brief summary of all Holy Scripture, in order to understand and instruct their children on spiritual and temporal matters; to have a fuller understanding themselves of all Christian doctrine.

Excellent book to delve deeper into the writings of Luther without going to far into the weeds.
Luther was an amazing man. His insight on instructing new Christians is powerful.
Exactly what I needed for Bible study. Easy read, clear defined explanations.
It had been over 60 years since my confirmation, and Being older wanted to “study†the writing. Luther is wordy (I knew that) however I was looking to get a bit inside the head of the man. I believe this helped me.
