Pros: The illustrations are vibrant and communicate the emotions of the sheep well, especially the "dark valley" page. My four-year old seemed to understand the metaphor of the shepherd and the sheep. He enjoyed the drama of the sad/lost sheep being swept into the loving arms of the shepherd. I'm glad to find a book that communicates the nearness and protectiveness of God. The book is very sturdy and high quality.Cons: The words are so over-parphrased that my son could memorize the book and still not recognize another version of the 23rd Psalm. I think that's a pity since the familiar Psalm has so much descriptive language; I miss "He prepares a table for me in the presence of my enemies" or "my cup runs over" or "I shall dwell in the house of the lord forever." I guess I will have to teach him another version of the Psalm.
LOVE this author and this book. This is the same word-for-word text as the chapter in Jesus Storybook Bible, but my kids love this for all the extra pictures. They (5 and 2.5 years old) have memorized the entire book, which is basically scripture in simpler language. I love it and have bought it from friends with little kids, too. I also appreciate the sturdy board pages.
BOARD book for grown-upsI have found that I have used this book as a gift of encouragement for dear people who are going through some type of grieving (job, trust, death, disease, transition, change) I's better than a card! and can be used with children, grandchildren, or passed along...when "they" are ready to let go of it.
I ordered this right after I heard the author speak about this book on a radio broadcast. It did not disappoint. I have children ages 10, 7, 5, and 2 and each child found something of interest. The pictures are captivating and the simple text retells Psalm 23 in language my children understand. Each page shoes the lamb and it is as though the little lamb is the one telling the psalm to us, from his or her perspective. Very charming--and I will keep this book in mind for baby gifts.
This book is precious! I like it more than I was expecting to and am planning to make this a Christmas gift for the many families I know that have children. It is very simple and looks like a baby book. However, it expresses a concept that even adults need to remember and rest in.
I love the writings of Sally Lloyd-Jones!Many years ago, I was introduced to the Jesus Storybook Bibke by my church and have read it countless times to myself and now my child. The way she writes even makes the stories powerful for adults. I also love the illustrations throughout and even contacted the illustrator because I wanted a copy of his work.This book has taken a powerful Psalm and presented it in a way for young children to grasp, I love it!
SO CUTE! The message is awesome. I get teary reading it to my six month old. I also love how the book is "squishy" and nice for her to chew on
Wonderful story and beautiful illustrations. The book is thick enough that little hands can take it around and it would be hard to tear up. I don't see how anyone can go wrong with this purchase.
